The fight to save Pontiac Prison begins

     Livingston County residents are on edge, after learning of the governor’s plan to close the Pontiac Correctional Center.
Pontiac Area Chamber of Commerce president Cheri Lambert says the prison is crucial to the local economy.

    A 2004 study showed the prison generated $1.5 million dollars for Pontiac-area businesses and that closure would cost Livingston County $40-million in lost revenue.
    106th District State Representative Keith Sommer of Morton urges the governor to keep his promise to the working people of Illinois.

     This week, the governor announced plans to close the maximum-security prison, while keeping a similar facility open, near Joliet.
