A Route 66 landmark in Normal has made the National Register of Historic Places. Terri Ryburn plans to restore Sprague's Super Service building at 305 East Pine to its original condition and open a Route 66 visitors center and tea room. She hopes to eventually have a bed and breakfast there also. The Normal Town Council recently chipped in money for a new roof and she has some grant money to hire an architect to help plan the restoration project. She says the designation might help her secure more grant money for the project.

The service station was built in 1931 along what was then the location of Route 66. Ryburn says it will probably take three to five years to complete the estimated $1.2 million restoration project.
