March is Illinois Poison Prevention Month

March is Illinois Poison Prevention Month, and the Illinois Poison Center has been visiting towns across Illinois getting out the word about keeping your home safe in regards to household chemicals, lead and other potentially dangerous items.

Illinois Poison Center Education Director Vicki Dance says one of the important things you can do is sit down with children and let them know that pills are taken for a reason, and they shouldn't be treated like candy.

Last year, the Illinois Poison Center handled more than 104,000 exposure and information calls, with 51 percent involving children age 5 and under.
