Senator Dick Durbin says he's frustrated the Veterans Affairs hospital in Marion still has no permanent leadership and surgical unit. That's seven months since the VA cleaned house of the site's top management and halted surgeries after a spike in patient deaths.

Durbin visited the hospital on Friday and says the VA must have a better way to monitor the professional qualifications of its medical professionals.

Durbin says he wants the VA to get it right. He calls the process ``painfully slow.''

A VA investigation found that at least nine deaths between October 2006 and March 2007 were ``directly attributable'' to substandard care at the Marion hospital.
