Cross says Springfield still 'frosty'

By The Associated Press

CHICAGO, IL - House Republican Leader Tom Cross says Governor Blagojevich is ``toxic.''

He says it's hard for the governor to advance his agenda for what he wants done in the state because he has to play defense on the allegations coming of out of the federal trial of political fundraiser Antoin ``Tony'' Rezko.

Cross says that the atmosphere in Springfield is still a little ``frosty'' after last year's record-breaking overtime session that dragged on mostly because of clashes between the state's top Democrats.

He says the thaw hasn't happened to the degree it needs to, and that lawmakers could be in for a similar year.

As for what might happen in Springfield this year, Cross says lawmakers may end up talking about gambling expansion again to pay for a statewide construction program.
