Bloomington-Normal ranks among the techiest cities in the US in a recent Compterworld article. The twin cities have a relatively small workforce compared to the other cities on the list. Bloomington-Normal ranks 6th with more than 4,000 IT workers, which is 5-percent of the total workforce. Janet Hill-Getz with Heartland Community College says the ranking is in part due to companies like State Farm and Country Financial.

Heartland is having a tech fair on April first to develop the next generation of techies. Hill-Getz says State Farm, Country Financial, Caterpillar and other companies will be at the Workforce Development Center from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. She says the companies will talk to students and prospective students about job opportunities and what type of education and experience they're looking for in future employees.
