HOUSTON (AP) -- The pastor of Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ has canceled plans to speak at three services at Houston's Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church on Sunday. The Reverend Marcus Cosby told the Houston Chronicle safety concerns prompted the Reverend Jeremiah Wright's decision. Yesterday, Wright canceled a Florida speech.
Wright is expected to be in North Texas over the weekend to be honored by the Brite Divinity School in Fort Worth.
Videos of remarks Wright has made have been circulating widely on the Internet and news programs. They have included him shouting "God damn America" for its treatment of minorities. According to Cosby, Wright's comments have been taken out of context. Cosby added that after their years of association, he will not kick Wright to the curb over sound bites.
