Peoria tries to lure Amtrak service
04/26/2007 18:17:37

It's been 25 years since Peoria has had passenger rail service. The city is now trying to get it back. The Illinois Department of Transportation has asked Amtrak to conduct a feasibility study to reestablish passenger rail service in Peoria.
The Heart of Illinois Regional Port District plans to work with Amtrak to set up possible routes and funding sources. The study is expected to take a year. Currently, Peoria-area residents wanting to take the train have to drive to Normal.
