State Farm denies pressuring engineers
04/11/2007 14:50:17

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- Attorneys for homeowners suing State Farm after Hurricane Katrina have long accused the insurer of pressuring engineers to alter reports so that policyholders' claims could be denied. Now, some of these lawyers claim they have evidence to prove their allegation. State Farm denies pressuring engineers. Spokesman Phil Supple says employees conduct themselves
ethically.

But internal e-mails, obtained yesterday by The Associated Press, indicate the company was threatening to dismiss Forensic
Analysis and Engineering less than two months after Katrina. Zach Scruggs is an attorney who is part of a legal team that sued State Farm on behalf of hundreds of homeowners. He says Forensic turned over the internal e-mails as part of the pretrial discovery process for one of the lawsuits.
