Beth's show at Churchill Downs,
Home of the Kentucky Derby!

Beth took her show on the road Friday, May 2 to give listeners an inside look at the sport of kings.
The filly race held on the Friday of Derby Eve is called "The Oaks."

The famous Twin Spires of Churchill Downs....

"Kentucky Kim" introduced Beth to the tradition of wearing last year's Derby hat for The Oaks.  Designer hats aren't cheap!

Then, Hall of Fame Jockey and two-time Kentucky Derby winner Jerry Bailey joined the team for a live interview.

Jerry talked about the dangers, myths and fun of horse racing.  He's worked hard within the industry to improve jockey safety.

Of course you have to get a mint julep at the Derby!

It's a small world. Beth found two good friends from her hometown sitting in the same section!  Beth's pin reads "Eight Belles."  Derby-goers wear pins with their horse's name and colors on it.

Millionaire's Row hosted a lot of celebrities, including Michael Jordan. That's him in the gray suit with his back turned.  He stood that way a lot.  Maybe he's shy.

The crowd always sings "My Old Kentucky Home" as the horses approach the starting gate. Beth's horse, the filly Eight Belles.  Her story was bitter sweet, placing second against all the boys only to break both front ankles.  She was euthanized after the race.

Beth's view as the horses rounded the first turn.  That's Big Brown (20) on the far left on his way to a win.

Beth in the moments after Eight Belles placed.  Of course, the celebration was cut short.  Many tears were shed trackside.

As Big Brown makes his way to the winner's circle, the crowd is clearly watching the backside of the track where Eight Belles went down.

And you can't talk about the Kentucky Derby without a parade of HATS:
