BLOOMINGTON - A weather system that will bring rain, snow and ice to Central Illinois has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Winter Weather Advisory until 12 p.m. Sunday.

Rain showers Saturday afternoon will change to freezing rain, sleet and snow through the evening and diminishing Sunday morning. The National Weather Service expects 1-3 inches of snow across Central Illinois with the heaviest amounts northwest of the Illinois River.

Up to one to two tenths of an inch of ice is also possible over Central Illinois overnight with the highest amounts along Interstate 55. Cold overnight temperatures will linger into Sunday morning, which could create slippery conditions on untreated roadways.

The snow is expected to stop by mid-morning Sunday, with cloudy skies and a high of 25 degrees the rest of the day. Sunshine returns Monday, but temperatures remain cold.
