Rallies like this one in Minnesota have grown far more common in the past few years. (photo by Fibonacci Blue/flickr)

We the People are witnessing the slow death of the Republican Party in our country.
The party of which I formerly belonged, has been infiltrated by the likes of Sarah Palin, Todd Akin, Richard Mourdock, Sharron Engle, Christine O'Donnell, Ann Coulter, and Rush Limbaugh, etc.; and let's not forget the birthers and the conspiracy theorists!
I predict, that if the Republicans in Congress vote against this new law that imposes universal background checks on all gun purchases, (including all firearms sold at gun shows), and the GOP votes against the elimination of these high capacity magazines and clips, the Republican Party, in bed with the NRA, may suffer the same consequences as did the Whig Party in the early1850’s.
I further predict, that in 2014, the Democrats will win control of the House, and add seats in the Senate, if my former fellow compatriots fail to vote "Ye" for these two provisions.
I ask, what party best represents my political views? I am strongly Pro-Life, (with two adopted children), I accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, I don't believe in homosexual marriage, and I am for limited government. I believe in the Second Amendment, (I own an assault rifle with two 25 round high capacity magazines), and I am willing to pay more taxes if it means the equal cutting of our federal spending, in order to reduce our deficit. I don't hate President Obama, but I believe that the President is wrong by forcing Obamacare both on the Catholic Church and on Christian businesses that are against the use of contraceptives and abortions.
One of my very good conservative friends calls me a bleeping, bleeping, socialist, communist, bleeping, bleeping, liberal Democrat; because of my political views. (Unlike in Congress, we are still friends even with our different political philosophies!) However, I think my viewpoints represent more conservative Republican values, than the Democrat's doctrine. This is the problem with today's Republican Party. If one is not in 100% agreement with the party platforms, one is not tolerated.
Therefore, because of my support of Obama's universal background checks, and my support of the elimination of high capacity magazines and clips; my more liberal views in regards to taxes and spending, and my lack of hatred towards our President, has caused my beloved Republican Party to abandoned me, instead of me abandoning the Party.
