KENOSHA, WI - The Illinois Wesleyan Titans sealed the 2012-2013 CCIW regular season conference championship Saturday night with a 78-59 victory over the Carthage College.
The Titans led the Redmen 37-33 at half but wore Carthage out in half number two. The Titans were able to open up a 59-46 lead on a Michael Mayberger three pointer at the 10:24 mark and the Titans cruised from there. Mayberger came off the bench for Illinois Wesleyan and scored 12 points on four three pointers. The Titans led by as many as 25 in the waning moments before settling for the 19 point win.
The Titans had five players in double figures with Kevin Reed pacing the Titans with 22 points on the night. Illinois Wesleyan dominated Carthage on the glass outrebounding the Redmen 42-16.
The win clinches an outright conference title for the Titans for the first time since 2005.
Illinois Wesleyan now has a chance to become the first team since Carthage in 2002 to win thirteen confence games in a season as they take on Millikin. With their twelfth consecutive victory the Titans are now 20-3 heading into their last two regular season games.
The Illinois Wesleyan women got a layup from Colleen McMahon with four seconds to play in overtime to help them stun the Carthage Lady Reds 76-75. McMahon finished with 27 points on the night while Katy Seibring added 19 in the Titans victory.
