Rantoul Grabs First Win of the Year

RANTOUL- Tim Morgan threw a go-ahead 81-yard touchdown pass to Chris Deaville with just under four minutes left in the game, and finished with 146 yards passing in Rantouls 19-14 victory over Olympia Friday night in a Cornbelt Conference matchup. It was the first win of the season for the Eagles, and improved its record to 1-3 on the season, while the Spartans moved to 0-4. 


The scoring got underway in the first quarter when Morgan connected with Larry Crayton for a 46-yard touchdown pass to put the Eagles ahead 7-0 with 1:37 remaining in the first quarter. Olympia responded and came within a point of Rantoul when quarterback Austin Rogers found Rickie McKown on a screen pattern before McKown scampered 50 yards to the endzone in the third quarter. Olympia attempted a two-point conversion, but came up empty leavig the score 7-6.

The Spartans took the lead in the fourth quarter after Rogers threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Jason Mann with 10:21 remaining in the game. Olympia converted on the two-point conversion to extend their lead to 14-7.

Rantoul retook the lead with 7:09 to play in the game after Crayton ran up the middle for a 15-yard touchdown run, but failed to convert on the two-point conversion which left Olympia ahead 14-13.

The Eagles got the ball back, and took the lead for good when Morgan connected with Deaville for the 81-yard strike. After a blocked PAT Rantoul led 19-14 with just 3:46 left in the game.

Olympia drove down the field to Rantoul's 25-yard line before a fumble was recovered by Rantoul with 1:04 remaining the game to give the Eagles their first win of 2012.
