Phyllis P. Woodrey

Phyllis P. Woodrey, 92, of Bloomington, formerly of Colfax, passed away at 7:53 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at her residence in Bloomington.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Colfax with Pastor Stephanie Soon officiating. Burial will follow in Wiley Cemetery, Colfax. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be directed to OSF Hospice, (EMCAA) Eastern McLean County Ambulance Association or the Colfax United Methodist Church.

Phyllis was born May 20, 1920 in Bird City, Kan., the daughter of Grant Pearl and Eva J. Hileman Hawthorne. She married Raymond “Val” Woodrey on Aug. 18, 1946 in Hudson. He died Jan. 16, 2013 in Bloomington.

Survivors include three daughters, Evelyn (Abe) Brown of Mansfield; Betty Steinlicht of Bloomington; Lois (Mark) Billings of Tulsa, OK; two sons, Raymond P. Woodrey (Kathy Barry) of Bloomington; Jim Woodrey of Colfax; one sister, Irene Woodrey of Normal; Eight grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and one great great grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Edward Woodrey in 1998, two brothers and two sisters.

She was a member of the Colfax United Methodist Church and Eastern Star Rebekah Lodge. Phyllis owned and operated Phyllis’ Beauty Shop in Heyworth and farmed alongside her husband. Phyllis and Val babysat not only their grandchildren but many children in the area. She was known as Grandma to many.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to OSF Hospice for the care they provided to Phyllis.
