Roy G. Anderson, Jr.

Roy G. Anderson, Jr., 88. of Bloomington passed away at 7:24 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013 at the home of his son Nick.

Private family service will be Thursday at East Lawn Mausoleum Chapel in Bloomington. Rev. Jim Warren will officiate. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery in Bloomington. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. The family suggests memorials be made to Eastern Star Home, Macon, Ill.

Roy was born April 16, 1924 in Bloomington, the son of Roy G. and Agnes M. Drake Anderson, Sr. He married Betty Jean Ortman on June 22, 1947 in Bloomington. She passed away Sept. 14, 2009.

He is survived by two children, William “Nick” (Mary ) Anderson, Bloomington and Rozanne Elizabeth Anderson, Bloomington; three grandchildren, Michelle Freimann, Bloomington, William Anderson, Jr., Bloomington, Erik J. Anderson, Bloomington, IL; two great-grandchildren,
Benjamin and Kristopher Freimann, Bloomington.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Roy served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He had worked at Wanamaker Electric in Bloomington until he retired. He was a member and Past Master Bloomington Lodge #43 A.F & A.M. He was member of the Bloomington Scottish Rite Bodies. He was past Patron of Bloomington Chapter #50; he was past Grand Patron and Grand Treasurer Emeritus of Order of Eastern Star of Illinois.

Roy was an avid Cubs Fan. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Bloomington. Roy was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Melanie Elizabeth Mathews

Melanie MatthewsMelanie Elizabeth Mathews, 54, of Bloomington passed away at St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013 at 9:21 p.m. with her family by her side.

Visitation and funeral services will be held on Thursday at Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington. At an early age she accepted Christ and was baptized at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Bloomington. Pastor Frank L. McSwain, Sr. of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church will officiate. Visitation will be 12-1 p.m. promptly followed by the Service at 1 p.m. Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Bloomington. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Melanie’s name may be made to the Community Cancer Center. Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home is handling arrangements.

Melanie was born in Bloomington on Aug. 14, 1958, to the union of Roy Lee and Elvenia Mathews.

She attended Bloomington District 87 public schools. Melanie is survived by three sons: Jermaine (Meranda) Simmons, Dural Mathews, and Kevin Mathews, and one grandchild, all of Bloomington. Also surviving are her mother Elvenia Mathews of Bloomington, brothers Michael (Abigail) Jones of Bloomington and Steven (Frances) Jones Denver, Colo. Also surviving are a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Melanie was preceded in death by her father Roy Lee Mathews, and her sister Sandol Scott-Hancock.

Melanie was deeply loved by her family and friends and will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Melanie was also an enthusiastic fan of the Dallas Cowboys.

Delmar E. Reinitz

Delmar ReinitzDelmar E. Reinitz, 87, of Heyworth died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013 at Martin Health Center in Bloomington.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday at the Heyworth Christian Church in Heyworth. Burial with military honors will follow at Randolph Township Memorial Cemetery in Heyworth with Rev. Kurt Flora officiating. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Memorials can be made to Central Illinois Honor Flight, C/O 712 E. Jefferson St., Effingham, IL 62410, or the Community Cancer Center in Normal, or the Heyworth Ambulance Service.

Delmar was born July 7, 1925 in Colfax, Ill. to Fred and Mattie Alpers Reinitz. He married Roma Joy Haskett on March 22, 1946 at Mattoon, Ill. Roma died Dec. 28, 2007.

He is survived by two daughters, Kimberly Reinitz, Bloomington and Rhonda Reinitz, Heyworth; two grandchildren, Kortney Reinitz, Loves Park, Ill. and Brett Lauher, Rushville, Ill.; a sister, Rose Dawson, Bloomington and a brother, Marvin Reinitz, Kellogg, Mich.

He is survived by his parents, four brothers, Wilbur, Elmo, Bernard and Robert and a sister, Viola Harris.

Del was a retired rural mail carrier. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He was a member of the Carl E. Miller Post 624 American Legion, Heyworth and the Little-Embry-Rainey Post 1559, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Heyworth.

Virginia "Vicky" Lee Schafer

Virginia “Vicky” Lee Schafer, 83, of Bloomington passed away at 11:03 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013 at Advocate-BroMenn Medical Center in Normal.

There will be no service or visitation. She was cremated. Private family inurnment will be at a later date. The family suggests memorials be made to a Humane Society of the donor's choice or to another charity of the donor’s choice. Cremation services are being handled by Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington.

Vicky was born Dec. 7, 1929 in Indianapolis, Ind., the daughter of Harold and Helen Loy Brunson. She married Ralph Alvin Schafer on Oct. 30, 1947 in Indianapolis. He precedes her in death.

Surviving are four dhildren, Randall (Susan) Schafer, Bloomington, LeAnn (Michael) Williams, Bloomington, William Schafer, Thomasville,NC, Daniel (Sara) Schafer, Edmond, Okla.; 8 grandchildren, Zachary (Alyssa) Schafer, St. Louis, Nicholas Schafer, Bloomington, Brent Williams, Bloomington, Lillian Schafer, Thomasville, NC, Haley, Austin, Hope and Cassandra Schafer, Edmond, Okla.

She is preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Connie Lee Schafer and brother, Bruce Brunson.

Vicky had worked at Nussbaum Trucking in Normal. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, bridge, duplicate bridge and most of all spending time with her family and friends. Her family will miss her “fun loving spirit.”
