BLOOMINGTON - The 2013-2014 Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts season has been announced and it includes old favorites, lots of comedy and some well-known artists.
BCPA Director Joel Aalberts said there were large audiences last year, offering the chance for a big season this year.
"We are certainly trying to provide something so that when anyone in the community looks at our brochure, there will be at least one thing that appeals to them. That has always been important to me," Aalberts said. "But, to also look at a variety of events and some things that have broad critical appeal and mass appeal."
The lineup this year includes Wayne Brady, Disney's Beauty and the Beast, Doc Severinsen and his Big Band and Gaelic Storm. Aalberts said Gaelic Storm has performed at the BCPA twice and crowds have been near capacity.
"The notable thing about that is that both times the band has been here, fans jumps and clap and stomp their feet, and it actually shakes the whole building," Aalberts said.
Other acts include Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, Olde English Christmas with Herman's Hermits and several comedy acts. Aalberts said comedy always been a favorite.
"Starting the season off with Wayne Brady, he will do anything. That show features what we would probably term as a traditional stand up, improv and audience interaction. The Second City will be coming on later, and then we'll have David Sedaris," Aalberts said.
There is one more comedy show in the works and other performances may be added as the season gets underway.
