CHICAGO - Chicago police say Illinois state Sen. Donne Trotter had an unloaded weapon and ammunition in a carry-on bag when he was trying to board a flight at O'Hare International Airport bound for Washington D.C.
Chicago police spokeswoman Melissa Stratton says Trotter is licensed to carry a weapon and has a Firearm Owner's Identification card.
Trotter is charged with a felony count of attempting to board an aircraft with a firearm. Messages left with him and his office seeking comment weren't immediately returned.
The Cook County State's Attorney's office said Trotter is due in bond court today.
