Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Stephen J. Lake

Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Stephen J. Lake, son of Shelley L. Waller of Le Roy, Ill. and John R. Lake, of Bloomington, Ill., recently reported for duty with Headquarters and Service Battalion, Marine Corps Base Camp Butler, Japan.

Lake is a 2011 graduate of Le Roy High School of Le Roy, Ill. and joined the Marine Corps in July 2011.

Army Pvt. Sydney G. Mount

Army Pvt. Sydney G. Mount has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

Mount is the daughter of Brian and Heather Mount of Route Nine, Tremont.

She is a Midwest Central High School, Manito.
