Illinois Army National Guard 1st Lt. April Hawes
1st. Lt. April M. Hawes, a native of Bradley, assumed command of the Illinois Army National Guard's Company F, 634th Brigade Support Battalion from Capt. Caleb A. Crouch of Greenview in Mount Vernon, Feb. 2.
Hawes has eight years of enlisted service and two years of commissioned service in the Illinois Army National Guard. Her previous assignment was as the operations officer for Company A, 405th Brigade Support Battalion in Streator.
Crouch will now serve as an information technology officer with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 634th Brigade Support Battalion in Sullivan.
Hawes resides in Athens.
Army Spec. Joshua N. Barton
Army Spec. Joshua N. Barton has returned to the U.S. after being deployed overseas at a forward operating base to serve in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Operation Enduring Freedom is the official name given to anti-terrorism military operations involving U.S. troops and allied coalition partners.
Active duty and reserve component members from all branches of the U.S. armed forces have been deployed to support the war against global terrorism outside the borders of the United States. U.S. troops serve in South, Southwest and Central Asia, the Arabian peninsula, the Horn of Africa, islands in the Pacific, and Europe.
Burton is an infantryman and team level saw gunner assigned to the 4th Airborne Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. He has served in the military for two and a half years.
He is the son of Joseph Burton of Creve Couer.
The specialist is a 2010 graduate of East Peoria Community High School.
Air Force Airman Mallory R. Cone

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Cone is the daughter of Michele Wagstaff of Brentwood Drive, East Peoria, and Jon Cone of Center Street, North Pekin.
She is a 2012 graduate of East Peoria High School.
