FLANAGAN - The Nov. 28 Powerball drawing is paying off for Bob Baker of Minonk and Rocky Patel of Flanagan.

State lottery officials were in Flanagan on Thursday to present a $1 million check.

Patel manages Bart’s Supermarket in Flanagan, and he was encouraging everyone to buy a Powerball ticket on the day of the big drawing. Baker wanted to buy one, but he only had one dollar. Patel made up the difference, and the quick-pick ticket that they bought matched 5 of the 6 numbers for a $1 million prize. Both men say their lives won’t change that much, and Patel said he’s definitely going to keep pushing lottery tickets.

"I'm going to keep selling because there's going to be another winning ticket somewhere down the road," said Patel. "I don't know when but they're going to come, and I'm going to tell my customers, keep playing."

Baker remembered and laughed that Patel had a quick reminder for him after he purchased the ticket.

"When I was getting ready to leave, he sat up and said to me 'Bob, if you hear anything about that ticket let me know,'" said Baker.

After taxes and other obligations, each man walks away with $350,000. Both men say they’ll set the winnings aside for their children, but Patel said he will buy his kids a 3-D TV, and Baker's wife would like a new washer and dryer.
