SPRINGFIELD - The two candidates vying for an open seat in the new 13th Congressional District are spending Election Day vying for last-minute votes.

Rodney Davis, a Republican from Taylorville, voted in his home town before hitting the road to meet with voters. At a stop in Springfield, Davis told a small gathering at a restaurant that he’ll work with Republicans and Democrats alike to move the nation forward if he’s elected.

Meanwhile in Bloomington, Democrat Dr. David Gill was making the rounds, shaking hands, while campaign staffers worked the phones.

The two are vying for an open seat. U.S. Rep. Tim Johnson (R-Urbana) announced earlier this year that he will retire.
