BLOOMINGTON - The state is asking for a transfer to adult court for the accused shooter at Normal Community High School.
The 14-year old defendent was in juvenile court Tuesday for a status hearing. McLean County Assistant State's Attorney Aaron Hornsby is asking for discretionary transfer to criminal court.
The defense said the request is "unfortunate, unwise, and ill advised" and argued more sanity examination is necessary first. The doctor's evaluation found the defendant fit to stand trial while the findings on sanity have not been made public.
A transfer hearing is set for November 27. A tentative bench trial was also set for December 17.
The boy faces 16 felony counts linked with the September incident. A request by the defense for release into his parents custody was denied.
