Normal - The Normal CornBelters have secured the services of Nick Belmonte as their Player Personnel Director for the 2013 season.
Belmonte served in the same position for the CornBelters in 2010 and 2011 working directly with former Field Manager Hal Lanier and his coaching staff.
“It’s great to be back working with the Normal CornBelters organization,” said Belmonte, who had seven of his signees participate in the 2012 Frontier League All-Star Game, including former CornBelters Alvaro Ramirez and Pat Trettel. “The fact that this is a first-class organization is only part of the reason I wanted to return. The other is finishing the job of making this team a contender.”
Belmonte has been signing players to professional contracts since 1990. In that time, he has signed over 1,500 players and counting. Several of his players have played Major League Baseball, most notably Rey Ordonez, Kevin Millar and Eddie Orepesa.
For the past 25 years, Belmonte has been the color analyst for the Florida Gator Baseball broadcasts on Sun Sports and Fox Sports Florida.
“We’re very excited to have Nick back on board with us,” said CornBelters General Manager Kyle Kreger. “He has a wealth of baseball knowledge, and he’ll be a tremendous resource for our new Field Manager. We’re serious about putting a winning team on the field next season, and we’re confident Nick will help us accomplish that.”
