ST. LOUIS – For the second-consecutive year, Illinois State senior forward Jackie Carmichael has earned a spot on the Missouri Valley Conference All-Tournament Team, announced following Sunday’s championship game between Creighton and Wichita State.
Carmichael was the only all-tournament player who did not play in the title game. CU’s Doug McDermott was named MVC Tournament Most Valuable Player, while Gregory Echenique also represented Creighton on the all-tournament team. Malcolm Armstead and Carl Hall earned Valley All-Tournament accolades for Wichita State.
Carmichael averaged a team-best 18.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.0 blocks during Illinois State’s two games at the Valley Tournament. He also shot 52 percent from the field. The Redbirds finished 1-1 in the tournament.
During ISU’s quarterfinal victory over Northern Iowa Friday night, Carmichael contributed 15 points, with a game-best 10 rebounds, for his 15th double-double of the season and the 35th of his career. He also blocked five shots, which tied ISU's Valley Tournament single-game record. Three of his blocks came in the final two minutes.
In the Redbirds’ semifinal loss to Wichita State Saturday evening, Carmichael scored a game-high 22 points, with five rebounds and three blocked shots. He also hit a three-pointer against the Shockers.
Carmichael, who was also a regular-season Valley First Team selection, has averaged 17.4 points and 9.3 rebounds this season.
