Blaze acquire defenseman, Booras named CHL Player of Month

The Bloomington Blaze have acquired veteran defenseman Steve Makway from the Denver Cutthroats for future considerations and have racked up league honors for the team's leading scorer.

Makway stands 6-5 and weighs 230 pounds, and is in his ninth professional season with most of his time spent in the Central Hockey League. The native of Trail, British Columbia was fifth in the CHL last season with 185 penalty minutes in 64 games with Evansville. Makway scored four goals and contributed 38 assists for 42 points and a +7 rating with the IceMen last season. In four games with the Cutthroats this season, he recorded two assists and two penalty minutes.

Also on Thursday, the circuit named Jon Booras as the Easton Central Hockey League Player of the Month for October. Booras leads the Blaze with 10 points (3 goals, 7 assists) in the first four games of the campaign. Booras leads the Blaze in assists and is tied for the team lead in goals with Travis Granbois and Jesse Dudas. In his 400th game in a Bloomington sweater on Friday against Wichita, Booras registered two goals and three assists for a five-point night.

The Blaze conclude their season-opening five-game homestand with a visit from the Quad City Mallards on Friday night at 7:05 at U.S. Cellular Coliseum. Friday is Discount Night presented by Easton, and $5 tickets are available for Friday’s game by printing a voucher found on the Blaze Facebook page and presenting the voucher at the time of purchase at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum box office. Fans may redeem as many as six vouchers for the discounted tickets.

The Blaze are a on a three-game winning streak, the longest in team history.
