Normal West 23 – Decatur MacArthur 20
Despite a late rally from the Generals, Normal West held firm on an onside kick to seal the win for the Wildcats.
Mitch Fairfield went 7-17 for 101 yards and a touchdown, most of those yards, however, came on a 76 yard bomb to Justin Fisher-Montgomery. The yardage leader for the Wildcats was Dominique Stevenson, who amassed 128 yards on just 14 carries.
Normal West remains unbeaten at 3-0, while the Generals fall to 2-1 on the young season.
Bloomington 49 – Urbana 26
A huge first quarter with consistent scoring throughout gave the Bloomington Purple Raider a solid win over Big 12 foe Urbana.
The Raiders dropped 21 points on the Tigers in the first frame, with two Kendall Johnson rushing touchdowns and a blocked punt that was returned by Jordan Somler into the endzone.
Alex Beckman for Urbana went 26 of 43 for nearly 300 yards and two scores. However also threw two interceptions, one that was returned by Bloomington’s Kendrick Cooley for a Raider touchdown.
Bloomington gets back to their winning ways, taking home a 2-1 record, while Urbana falls to 0-3.
U-High 49 – Olympia 14
The Pioneers were nearly unstoppable on their home turf against the Olympia Spartans.
Arion Worthman went 13 of 17 for 166 yards and four touchdowns in the first half, and the Pioneer defense stifled the Spartans for just 75 yards of total offense in the first two quarters.
U High gave up two late touchdowns in the 4th quarter, but the outcome was never in doubt.
The Pioneers move to 3-0 on the season and in Corn Belt play, while Olympia falls to 0-3.
Central Catholic 22 – Prairie Central 21
The Saints, for the second consecutive year, entered week 3 with an 0-2 record, however they would not drop to 0-3 this season, chiefly due to a stingy goal line defense and running back Brent Segobiano.
Both a goal line stand on the one yard line, and a stop on a late go ahead two point conversion secured the victory for Central Catholic.
On the offensive side of the ball, Segobiano rolled through the Prairie Central defense, gaining 139 yards on 33 carries.
Central Catholic now stands at 1-2, with Prairie Central sits at 0-3.
Niles Notre Dame 21 - Normal Community 7
Two costly first half mistakes spelled doom for the Ironmen against non-conference opponent Niles Notre Dame.
The Ironmen threw a late first half interception that was taken in for a Dons touchdown, while also giving up a punt return for a touchdown earlier in the second quarter.
Niles running back Chris James scorched the Ironmen defense for 198 yards and their lone offensive touchdown.
Normal Community only managed to gain 127 yards of total offense, as they received their first loss of the season.
NCHS moves to 2-1, while the Dons remain unbeaten at 3-0.
