A close game between rivals Normal Community and Bloomington predictably went down to the wire, but eventually the Ironmen pulled out a 58-55 victory at the Shirk Center Monday night.
The Purple Raiders took the early lead in the game, but could never shake Normal Community who hung with them, never trailing by more than a few baskets.
Trevor Seibring was the driving force for the Ironmen in the first half, and finished the contest tied for second on the team with 14 points. Normal took their first lead with 24 seconds left in the first half, but the Raiders retook the lead and went into halftime with a 30-28 lead.
Bloomington's Brady Rose, who led all scoring with 24, kept the Purple Raiders up for most of the third quarter, but the Ironmen came back strong at the end of the third and eventually took the lead with 45 seconds left and led by four heading into the final quarter.
Normal would never relinquish that lead, as key basktets by both Marquet Newsome and leading Ironmen scorer Callen Bodie kept Community in front to take home the victory.
