The start of the high school football season is here and so too is the WJBC Friday Night High School Football Extravaganza Connected by Frontier Communications.
Our top two matchups involve teams that are expected to contend for a Big 12 conference championship. We will have play-by-play of Normal Community at defending-champion Urbana plus No. 10 (in 6A) Bloomington hosting Danville.
The Extravaganza will also have frequent updates of Champaign Central at Normal West, Washington visiting Central Catholic and U-High traveling to Morton. In the Heart of Illinois, No. 8 (in 1A) LeRoy will entertain Deer Creek-Mackinaw.
On 98.9 FM WJEZ and WJEZ.com, Pontiac opens its season at home against Chicago Clemente.
WJBC's coverage on AM 1230 and WJBC.com begins at 6 p.m. and will have reports of every game every 15 minutes with postgame until 11.
First place is at stake in the National League Central as the St. Louis Cardinals open a three-game weekend series in Pittsburgh tonight.
Shelby Miller (12-8) pitches for the Cardinals against Francisco Liriano (14-6) for the Pirates.
WJBC 93.7 FM will have the play-by-play at 5:55 p.m.
Redbird Volleyball, Soccer
The Illinois State volleyball opens its season in the IUPUI Tournament in Indianapolis. The Rebirds play the host Jaguars at 6 p.m. You can listen live here at WJBC.com.
After splitting its first two matches of the season at home last weekend, the Redbird women's soccer team plays its first road game at Minnesota. That match begins at 7 p.m. also on WJBC.com.
