BLOOMINGTON - The Central Catholic Saints got off to big start on Friday night as they jumped out to an early 23-0 lead and were never seriously challenged the rest of the night winning their fifth Corn Belt contest game of the yea,r 40-22, over the Olympia Spartans.
Quarterback Tony Rettick threw two touchdowns in the first six minutes, one to McKay Moews for 24 yards and a second to Joe Craven from one yard out.
Nate Atkins led the way for the Saints with 146 yards and two touchdowns. The senior fullback scored the third Central Catholic touchdown in the first quarter to extend the Central lead to 23-0 and scored again in the fourth quarter to put the game away for the Saints.
Olympia battled Central Catholic all night long and held tough after falling behind early. The Spartans were able to put two touchdowns on the board in the fourth quarter but were never able to make a serious charge at the Saints. Rickie McKown had a strong effort for Olympia as the Spartan senior had seven carries for 96 yards and one touchdown.
Central Catholic improves to 5-3 on the season and can wrap up an IHSA playoff birth with a win over Decatur Eisenhower to close out the regular season next week. Olympia dropped to 1-7 with the loss.
