NORMAL - According to his Twitter account, Iowa State quarterback Jared Barnett is transferring to Illinois State University.
Barnett said in a tweet Thursday, "It's official, I'm headed up to Illinois State in a few days to join the Redbird Nation."
Barnett, a 6-1 sophomore from Garland, Texas, was the on-and-off starter at Iowa State and threw for 1,825 yards and 12 touchdowns in two seasons. In 2011, he passed for 376 yards in a win over then-No. 2 Oklahoma State which eventually kept them out of the national title hunt.
Barnett played in 6 games for the Cyclones in 2012. He went 52-108 passing for 624 yards, throwing 6 touchdowns and 4 interceptions.
Illinois State officials couldn't be reached to confirm the transfer.
The Redbirds lost quarterback Matt Brown to graduation, who was named the Missouri Valley Football Conference Offensive Player of the Year in 2012.
