AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Masters Tournament is among the most prestigious tournaments in the golfing world, and Pekin native D.A. Points will be playing in it.
Though Points says he’s been having a tough year, he was able to win the Houston Open, which qualified him for the Masters, with a putter that used to belong to his mother.
“(I) was just not putting very well, so I went into my garage and grabbed a bunch of putters out of my garage and threw them in my bag. That was one of them. And when I got to Houston, I was practicing and thought that one felt pretty good, so I put it in,” he said.
This is the second time Points will make an appearance in the Masters. He qualified in 2011 after winning that year’s Pebble Beach Pro-Am with his partner, actor Bill Murray.
Points says he will also be playing in the John Deere Classic in Silvis, Ill., in June.
