BLOOMINGTON - Bloomington Police are investigating a Tuesday afternoon bank robbery at the Commerce Bank at 120 North Center Street.
Police spokesman Dave White said the robbery happened at 2:25 p.m. The suspect, 49-year-old Clifton T. Smith, allegedly passed a teller a note demanding money, but didn't show a weapon.
White said Smith fled to the south and was apprehended at 2:36 p.m. after a BPD officer saw him entering the Huck's Convenient Store at 102 West Oakland.
"When the officers got him outside, he basically told the officers, 'You got me,' and he confessed to doing it. He did have the money on him that he'd just taken from the bank. He did not have any weapons," White said.
There were no injuries. After being questioned, Smith will be transported to the McLean County Jail.
