CARRIER MILLS - Officials said Monday an explosion at a Southern Illinois mining equipment repair site has hospitalized one worker and destroyed a building.

Caterpillar spokesman Rusty Dunn said it's not immediately clear what caused the blast Monday morning. It happened in an unattached paint building in Saline County village of Carrier Mills. That building was leveled.

Dunn says an unidentified employee sustained burns and was taken to a St. Louis-area hospital. His medical status was not immediately known.

The business has about 70 workers, though it's not clear how many were there when the explosion happened.
