CHICAGO (AP) - Gov. Pat Quinn has endorsed the man running against indicted former state Rep. Derrick Smith for Illinois House.

At a press conference on Sunday, Quinn said Lance Tyson is the Democrat who will best represent residents of Chicago's West Side. He calls Tyson a hard worker who will serve with integrity.

Smith, a Democrat, was indicted on federal bribery charges, then expelled from the House earlier this year. He is now running to regain his seat. Illinois law says that if he is elected he cannot be expelled a second time.

Tyson is an attorney who's a Democrat but running as a third party candidate because Smith has the Democratic slot on the Nov. 6 ballot.

The district is one of the most heavily Democratic in the state.
