CHICAGO - There’s a way to help wounded military heroes connect with their loved ones.
Operation Hero Miles provides travel for families of American military men and women who are being treated for injury at military hospitals across the nation and the world.
“When it comes to the Hero Miles program it’s one of the best ways that I can think of to support a particularly heroic community within the military community of heroes and that is our wounded warriors,” said Erica Borggren, director Illinois Department of Veteran Affairs.
Operation Hero Miles works in conjunction with The Fisher House at the Hines VA Hospital in Maywood.
Fisher House provides temporary housing for families of veterans who are receiving medical care at the VA hospital. Air travel is provided to family members visiting U.S. servicemen and women hospitalized with injuries sustained in Iraq or Afghanistan.
