Gay marriage bill faces more opposition in Illinois House than Senate

SPRINGFIELD - People against same-sex marriage in Illinois should be more in evidence when the issue comes up in the House than they were when it passed the Senate Thursday.

“We felt that our chances of defeating it, from a very pragmatic point of view, are much stronger in the House than they were in the Illinois Senate,” said FamilyPAC president Paul Caprio, who predicts a close vote in the House. Caprio says his group is contacting members of the House to urge them to oppose the bill.

Caprio, who is also a spokesman for the Coalition for the Protection of Children and Marriage, said research indicates children are less likely to be unemployed, catch a sexually transmitted disease, or commit suicide when raised by Mom and Dad – rather than Mom and Mom or Dad and Dad.
