BLOOMINGTON - Does the student in your household learn about Ag in the Classroom?
“It’s a national program funded by the USDA,” says state coordinator Kevin Daugherty of the Illinois Farm Bureau. “Unfortunately, from the USDA, our budget at the national level is about $400,000. In Illinois, we spend over $2 million at the county and state level helping provide information to teachers and students about what accurate agriculture really is.”
Daugherty says teachers can integrate his materials into science, math, social studies, and language classes.
He also has found that home-schoolers use the materials in the off-season; for example, when it’s time to grow pumpkins in the spring.
