BLOOMINGTON - Regulators Friday closed the Citizens First National Bank in Princeton and Bloomington-based Heartland Bank and Trust is taking over all deposits.
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation closed the Princeton bank branches, making for a total of 49 bank closures in the U.S. so far this year and the eighth in Illinois.
Any customer of Citizens can access their money this weekend and checks will continue to be processed.
Heartland Bank officials said customers of Citizens should continue to use the existing branches until they get notice that a completed systems change has occurred for other Heartland Bank branches to process the accounts.
As of Sept. 30, Citizens First National Bank had about $924 million in assets and $869 million in deposits.
Heartland Bank also took over the failed Bank of Illinois in 2010.
