BLOOMINGTON - A former city employee is in police custody for allegedly stealing $21,000 from Bloomington's coffers.
Police spokesman Dave White says the investigation began in July of 2012 regarding money that went missing between September of 2011 and December of 2011. The investigation continued through this January and ended with the arrest of Leslie J. Weaver, also known as Leslie Lebel and Leslie Darnall.
U.S. Marshals arrested Weaver at her home in Sherrard, Ill. around 11:30 a.m. Friday.
She was taken to the Rock Island County Jail to await extradition to McLean County. City officials said Friday they won't comment on any details surrounding how Weaver allegedly got her hands on the $21,000.
