Coroner: Alcohol not a factor in Chenoa crash

CHENOA - Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the weekend death of a couple from Arrowsmith.

McLean County Coroner Beth Kimmerling said Tuesday an autopsy on Eldon and Stephanie Kaeb showed the couple died from their injuries in a semi versus car accident in rural Chenoa.

Kimmerling said the Kaebs had just left a family event and were headed to Wisconsin at the time of the crash. She said it appears the Kaeb's vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign on 3360 East Road.

Officials said the semi traveling west on Route 24 struck the car at about 9:15 p.m. Sunday.

Kimmerling has ruled out a medical event before the crash. Despite no evidence to support alcohol as a factor, Kimmerling still ordered toxicology tests.

The driver of the semi was not injured.

State police continue to investigate the crash.
