BLOOMINGTON - The McLean County Chamber of Commerce Political Action Committee has endorsed the write-in candidate for Bloomington's Ward 1 city council race.

PAC Treasurer Ryan Whitehouse said Thursday a committee interviewed both Kevin Lower, who is listed on the Ward 1 ballot, and Jamie Mathy who does not appear on the ballot. Whitehouse said Mathy's small business ownership experience overshadowed the underdog status that often comes with write-in campaigns.

"Write-in candidate is a hard campaign to win," said Whitehouse. "But the PAC more felt that his experience with small business and being involved in the community, that his wisdom and experiences can bring an insight to Bloomington (City) Council that's lacking there."

The PAC has endorsed mayoral and council candidates in Bloomington and Normal races. It is WJBC news policy to only cover unusual or unexpected endorsements in political campaigns.
