A. Wayne Downen, 83, of Bloomington died at 1:08 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013 at LeRoy Manor Nursing Home in LeRoy.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Hudson United Methodist Church with Rev. John Tymonko officiating. Interment will be private. Visitation will be 3-6 p.m. Sunday at Carmody-Flynn Williamsburg Funeral Home in Bloomington and from 10-11 a.m. Monday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Hudson United Methodist Church.
Wayne was born on July 28, 1929 in Wayne County, Illinois, the son of Ralph and Cora Weber Downen. He married Mary Ann Boggs on Aug. 13, 1950 in Bloomington. She survives.
He is also survived by two sons, Stephen (Anna) Downen, Normal and Kenneth (Karen) Downen, Bloomington; three grandchildren, Stephanie Downen, Forest Park, Ill., Katy (Chris) Grady and William Northcutt, both of Bloomington; five great grandchildren, Kaleb Downen, Molly, Brooke and Korrie Grady and Delaney Northcutt; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, one sister and a grandson, Benjamin Downen.
Wayne was a retired farmer and was named Outstanding Young Farmer for McLean County in 1962. He was a charter member of the Hudson Lions Club and was also a member of the Elks Lodge and the McLean County Farm Bureau. He served as a board member for the Hudson Volunteer Fire Department when the district formed.
Wayne was an active member of the Hudson United Methodist Church for over 50 years, was a trustee of the church and served on various church committees.
