Many Danville schools not meeting standards
DANVILLE, Ill. (AP) _ At least five of Danville's public schools didn't meet state learning standards in standardized tests taken earlier this year. Danville school district officials say five schools didn't make what is considered adequate progress under the federal No Child Left Behind Act. Officials say they're waiting to learn whether a sixth school initially reported as not meeting standards may have actually met them. Test data indicate fewer than 70 percent of the district's students in general read proficiently. Seventy percent is the benchmark used in the federal law. In addition, black students failed to meet that 70 percent proficiency mark in math. School Board President Bill Dobbles says the district has to do better and will.
