Durbin waiting on state for high speed rail money
Sen. Durbin asked Illinois to set aside $500 million for high speed rail.
5/26/2009 7:15:00 AM
By: Alex Stegman and Eric Stock
Senator Dick Durbin says Illinois can get matching funds for high speed rail -- but the state must first get its budget in order. Durbin asked Illinois to set aside $500 million for high speed rail. Governor Quinn also called for rail money to be included in the capital plan, but legislative leaders did not put it in. Durbin says adding more passenger rail service to Illinois would benefit the environment.
Quinn also says he won't sign the capital bill until lawmakers approve an operating budget.
