Marine Corps Pfc. Miles M. Winder, son of Janice and David E. Berry of Bloomington, Ill., recently graduated from the Marine Aviation Supply Mechanized Course. During the course with Marine Aviation Training Support Squadron One, Marine Aviation Support Training Support Group 21, Meridian, Miss., students learn ordering, requisition, inventory and stock procedures to perform as supply clerks in Fleet Marine Force aviation units and air squadrons. Winder is a 2004 graduate of Mountain View High School of Tucson, Ariz. and joined the Marine Corps in January 2010.

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Courtney E. Kennedy graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. She is the daughter of Patrick Kennedy of Birch Drive, Shorewood, Ill., and Patricia Klecka of Eichhorn Road, East Peoria, Ill. Kennedy graduated in 2006 from Metamora Township High School, Ill., and received an associate degree in 2009 from Illinois Central College, East Peoria.

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Tim R. Burkhart graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Morgan St., Metamora, Ill., and Robert Burkhart of N. Knoxville Ave., Peoria, Ill. Burkhart is a 2007 graduate of Metamora Township High School.

Navy Lt. Cmdr. Ryan L. Meskimen graduated from the Naval War College, College of Naval Warfare in Newport, R.I. Qualified students earned a master of arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies. The college is the oldest war college in the nation and oldest institution of its kind in the world devoted to advanced military studies. The College of Naval War College is a multidisciplinary program designed for U.S. Navy and Coast Guard officers in the grades of captain or commander; U.S. Marine Corps, Army and Air Force officers in the grade of colonel or lieutenant colonel; and civilians of equivalent seniority from various federal agencies. This senior level of professional military education provides students with executive-level preparation for higher responsibilities as senior captains/colonels and flag/general officers. The college instruction enhances the professional capabilities of its students to make sound decisions in command and managerial positions, and to conduct research leading to the development of advanced strategic and tactical concepts for the future of employment of naval forces. Meskimen, a junior medical planner, is assigned to the Marine Forces Command, Norfolk, Va. He has served in the military for 19 years. He is the son of Randy L. Meskimen of Panorama Drive, Posey, Calif., and Deena L. Burkholder of Mall Road, Pekin, Ill. His wife, Johnna, is the daughter of Roy L. Conn of Elizabeth Court, Smyrna, Tenn. The lieutenant commander graduated in 1987 from Bakersfield High School, Calif., and received a bachelor's degree in 1999 from Middle Tennessee State University, Murfreesboro. He earned a master's degree in 2001 from Georgia State University, Atlanta.

Navy Seaman Samantha J. Rech, daughter of Angie J. and Rudy J. Rech of Lexington, Ill., recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. During the eight-week program, Rech completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness. The capstone event of boot camp is "Battle Stations". This exercise gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet. "Battle Stations" is designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of Honor, Courage and Commitment. Its distinctly ''Navy'' flavor was designed to take into account what it means to be a Sailor. Rech is a 2002 graduate of Lexington High School of Lexington, Ill. She is a 2007 graduate of Eureka College, Eureka, Ill. with a BS degree.
