ISU administration deciding between developers for new housing project

NORMAL – Illinois State University leaders are now deciding between two developers for a new student housing project.

Earlier this year the University announced it wanted to open a new dormitory, on campus, for sophomore students. Freshman and sophomores are required to live on campus and leaders believe the new building will bring up to 1,200 new beds.

At this time the school is not allowed release the names of the companies involved, but ISU officials say the new project is much-needed, and they are happy to have taken another step toward their goal.

“We are certainly excited about the possibility of this project,” said ISU Spokesman, Eric Jome. “This is a need that we have, especially sophomore level housing.”

The developer’s proposals are under review and a recommendation will be made to University Administration to either follow up on one or decline both.

Leaders say they hope to have the new dorm up by fall of 2021.
