Child in critical condition after SUV crash

BLOOMINGTON – A young boy who was hit by an SUV Thursday near Illinois Wesleyan University is in critical condition.

Bloomington Police said Friday the driver of the vehicle who struck the child was interviewed and released without a citation or arrest.  The investigation is ongoing.

The child was riding a scooter northbound on Evans Street and was struck by the SUV travelling west on Empire Street around 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

The child was initially taken to a local hospital, then was transferred to a Peoria hospital.
