Goods, Maggett earn Valley first team honors

NORMAL – Illinois State’s top two scorers have been named to the Missouri Valley Conference’s first team for women’s basketball as Simone Goods and TeTe Maggett are on the 11-member all-conference squad.

Goods received honorable mention last year. She led the Redbirds in scoring for the second straight season with a current average of 17.4 points. The senior from Omaha, Neb. shoots 54 percent from the field, second-best in the Valley, and leads the Redbirds with 7.8 rebounds per game, fourth in the conference. She earned MVC Player of the Week honors twice this season.

Maggett averaged 15.8 points in her first season with the Redbirds and led the team with 72 assists. The junior from North Chicago, Ill. earned four MVC Newcomer of the Week awards including a sweep of the player and newcomer honors once.

Illinois State (18-11) has the fourth seed at the Missouri Valley Conference tournament, Hoops in the Heartland, and faces fifth-seeded Bradley (20-9) in the quarterfinals at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Taxslayer Center in Moline. The game can be heard on WJBC-AM 1230 and WJBC.com beginning at 2:30.
