DWIGHT – A group of activists is once again trying to rally supporters to voice concerns about a proposed ICE detention center in Livingston County.

No ICE Dwight released a statement Wednesday on Facebook calling for more demonstrations before Monday night’s Dwight Village Board meeting.

The group rallied Tuesday night before the planning commission meeting. The commission gave the nod to the village board to annex land located off Interstate 55 and Illinois Route 17 for the immigrant detention facility.

It’s unclear whether the village board will take a vote Monday.

Our news partner WMBD-TV tells us the village board will seek more public comment before taking final action.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
